Crafty Obsessions

I have been lagging in the 'updating the blog area' and will try and be better this week. There are a lot of stories I would like to capture (while I remember) and share with those I love. But in the meantime....I thought it was time to post some of my latest 'crafty obsessions'. I made this for Mother's Day for Grandma Alma and my dear friend Dusti.

I made this apron for a friend's daughter's 2nd birthday. I thought the party was Friday, but in my forgetful, not all together there pregnant mind the party is actually on Friday in two weeks. Oh well, now I am unbelievably ahead for once!

I made this skirt set for another friend's daughter's birthday. It was through trial and error and I really wish I knew how to sew better. I think my little projects would go much faster and smoother if I knew what I was doing. I just love doing this kind of stuff - I know it may sound corny, but it is really fun and relaxing to create something and I seem to have this obsession with fabric and handmade clothes lately! I hope Donna and Sela like it (and maybe will hand it back down to Laura when Sela outgrows it - hee hee)! No pressure Donna!

Here is the one I made for my little Laura. We were all excited to go to Sela's princess party and wear our princess skirt, but alas, Mommy threatened one too many times if they didn't behave they wouldn't be able to go to the party. In hindsight I should not have threatened something I really didn't want to, but I just felt I had to follow through. Nathan and Laura have really been acting up lately and fighting a lot - Gosh I hope this is a phase - and I just had to take something away that would mean something. I am sorry we missed the party, but Donna called and said she and Sela really liked the outfit. I am so glad the party went well. Hopefully I won't ever have to threaten the kids with that again!

Grandma Alma's Creations

Well, I have been lagging on my posting. There has been a lot going on around here lately. I wanted to share this picture of Nathan because he absolutely LOVES his pjs Grandma Alma made him. He would wear them all day every day if he could. We spent a day with her last month making these flannel pj bottoms and she surprised him with a matching shirt at Mother's Day. I will have to go back soon and have another sewing day because it was really fun and now Nathan wants shirts to match all of his pj bottoms! I just love sewing with Grandma Alma and hope to learn as much as I can with her.

Beginning

Well, here it is, my attempt at starting a blog. I hope it is as easy as my friends say it is!

I have to thank my mom for the name - living Lacerda - it just sort of summed up my feelings. I hope to capture our everyday life as well as those special moments as a family. I hope to use this as a journal and a way to share those crazy, funny, cute, wonderful (and sometimes not so wonderful in the moment) moments our Lacerda family lives with our extended family and friends.

Please be patient with me as life gets a little crazy time wise for me lately, but I am looking forward to having yet another creative outlet!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day started on Saturday for us with a visit to Gma Alma and Aunt Pam's in San Leandro. It was a long drive with traffic and the funniest thing Nathan asked during the car ride was "Is the party going to be over when we get there?" I just loved it! We had a great time with cousins Greg, Mai Leigh and their two kids (Emma and Jackson), Julie and Uncle Ted and Aunt Geneva. My brother Joe and his girlfriend Tammy and her son Jovanni were there to celebrate too and it is always nice to spend time with them since we don't get the chance as often as I would like. Nathan and Laura talk about Uncle Joey, Tammy and Jovanni almost daily so it is always fun to see them interact.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day...

Doesn't he look like he should be in the Hampton's or something? This is sooo his personality!

Laura had so much fun dumping water with that cup.

You can see the sugar kicking in. I think this was their second or third popsicle for the day and Nathan (with a stomach like his mother's), had to get sick all over Gma Alma and Aunt Pam's living room before we left. I am so sorry - I hope it all came out!

I just love this picture! We have tried for a few years now to get a picture of all four of these guys and it just can't seem to come out the way we would like (you know, all smiling and looking in the same direction, without props) - but I do actually have to admit it is pictures like this that will make us laugh for years to come! I just had to share!
